Eco-Makeover...

When this couple set out to remodel their condo, their goal was to make it as green as possible using materials that were recycled, renewable, or sourced from environmentally responsible companies. The used eco-friendly materials like cork flooring {that is water and mold resistant}, 100% recycled glass tiles for the bathroom and kitchen, low flow rate on their faucets, low VOC Quartz for the countertops, and low VOC paints throughout their space.

KMAC Greenworks...

My mother-in-law emailed me the link to KMAC Greenworks because she thought I might like them...and I do! KMAC Greenworks started in the reclaimed materials industry in 2003 and is a division of KMAC Services that provides industrial recycling focused on the re-manufacture and re-use of industrial byproducts. Greenworks provides homeowners, builders, designers, and architects with sustainable building products in the form of hardwood flooring, beam and timber work, brick, and stone. In addition to the materials, they use the reclaimed wood to build one of a kind distressed furniture pieces as well.

The Greenworks promise: 'In a world of diminishing resources, we provide our clients with sustainable and environmentally friendly building materials. We see beauty and possibility in historic mills and buildings slated for demolition.'

Their warehouse is located in Birmingham, AL (my hometown) and is open to the public. I hope to visit it one day.

Green Thumb...

I want a garden. I would say that I have a pretty good green thumb. But that is only with house plants. I haven't had a chance to do any gardening yet, but one day! I think I would use this garden as a guide and reference. Isn't it fabulous! It is the garden of none other than fashion legend Oscar de la Renta. Although it snowed a couple of inches just the other day, the end of the week is saying the highs may be in the 70s! Spring may be here sooner than we think.

How to Recycle Anything...

Right before you throw anything away to you ever wonder, 'Could I recycle this?'. Real Simple gave us some answers. In the September issue they gave an alphabetical list from letters A to M (N to Z in the October issue) of how to recycle almost anything, from deodorant sticks to cars/boats/trailers/motorcycles to crayons to ipods to makeup. Check the list before you toss something away. According to Real Simple, "America is recycling nearly 33% of its waste"; that is great, but we can do a lot better! As stated, "While it's good not to waste, it's even better to have waste that doesn't go to waste".

Bag It Up...

My sister emailed me this product last week. I think these bags are a great idea! We all want to help the environment by using less plastic bags, but it doesn't seem ideal to carry around a lot of bags. I think this product solves that problem. I plan to invest in some. Has anyone heard of them, have them, or used them?
